Our Origins

TurfScout was founded in 2006 through a collaborative effort of scientists and GIS specialists. Since 2007, TurfScout® has conducted extensive research on turf color, soil water content, and turf grass density, with data recorded by mower-mounted and handheld sensors. From our research we developed an algorithm that correlates the sensor data with turf grass quality. Our data, along with a growing body of scientific literature demonstrated the promise of these tools for pro-active turf management. However, one thing was still missing; How can we make these data sets available and useful to turf grass managers?

We developed a method to employ sensing technology on golf courses. We put the system in service at golf courses to test all aspects of usefulness and reliability. We worked closely with superintendents, who provided valuable feedback, to make our methods and analysis better. Most importantly we have developed the "behind the scenes" tools that create reliable maps and trend reports at the click of your mouse. We see sensing technology as the new standard in turf management. We will continue to develop our services and methods to provide additional capabilities and benefits to our users.
